The MILLE MIGLIA 70th Anniversary collection is
limited to a production of 88 sets of sterling silver and I8K gold
fountain pens and 412 sterling silver fountain pens (available only In
Italy). The special technique of engraving by hand with a burin was
employed to bring to life the exquisite beauty of this small motoring
world on the body. The reliable piston filled mechanism and the I8K
platinum plated nib providing unsurpassed pleasure of writing makes this a
treasure for years to come.
THE PEN :-
With an eminent shape and strength of substance, it
reveals in its exquisite beauty the fabrication of the true artisan. The
artistic value of the decoration nearly overwhelms the actual construction
of the writing instrument. In this way the "the largest travelling
museum in the world " takes body. The pen's form configures the route
that one's fancy takes one to imagine and follow throughout the Mille
Miglia. The best engraving Masters of Brescia, reunited in it the
'Engraving shop of Cesare Giovanelli " have understood exactly how to
transfer on to this pen that small motor world witnessed by our
grandfathers and fathers. The engraved design seems to move along it. The
burin, "magic instrument" removes the superficial metal, like a
small plough, imprinting colour on to the design and so obtaining the
various scales of complete grey. From one to ten notches to a millimetre
it takes body and colour, as the carbon of the artist on a sheet of blank
paper. But, in this case it is far more difficult. One needs a firm hand
and sound mind to be able to move along the object to be engraved without
committing a single error. It is for this that the –"Engraving shop
of Cesare Giovanelli " is not only a craftsman's laboratory, but also
and above all a school of experience.
It is this interpretation of the craft that emerges
in their work, each piece unique and unrepeatable. To complete the work
the house Montegrappa, since 1912 the leading company in the sector has
once more demonstrated to be highly innovative.
They are the first to use on semi-industrial level
this engraving technique,
because the desire to continue being in the front
line in the interpretation of the demands of the new collectors goes far
beyond the writing instrument in itself. Once the technical problems of
function, reloading and leaking have been resolved, it is the aesthetics
that prevail. The instrument becomes an object of passion .... and passion
