NAMIKI YUKARI COLLECTION
From a culture that has revered the art of writing for more than a
thousand years, comes instruments that celebrate both writing and art.
The
Yukari Collection features writing instruments which are individually
hand-crafted by the most revered of Japanese master artisans. Using the
famed Maki-e technique which encompasses the creation of patterns and
decorations with the use of sap from the Japanese lacquer tree (Urushi),
gold and silver dust are sprinkled on the creation before it dries. The
base of this work is commonly finished by lacquering and given a high
gloss before further patterns are drawn. In 2009, Namiki presents four
works of art from the Yukari collection, transforming traditional scenes
from nature into striking fantasies.
Namiki Turtle - A symbol of prosperity and longevity, the turtle has
brought centuries of happinessand hope to the Japanese. Turtles have
been immortalised in folklores as the bringer of wealth and the
fulfiller of dreams. In traditional far eastern culture, turtles are
also often seen as the gateway to contact with divine beings. The Yukari
Turtle enthralls with its unparalleled attention to detail and masterful
display of Taka Maki-e and Togidashi Maki-e skill.
