NAMIKI YUKARI COLLECTION
From a culture that has revered the art of writing for more than a thousand
years, comes instruments that celebrate both writing and art. The
Yukari Collection features writing instruments which are individually
hand-crafted by the most revered of Japanese master artisans. Using the
famed Maki-e technique which encompasses the creation of patterns and
decorations with the use of sap from the Japanese lacquer tree (Urushi),
gold and silver dust are sprinkled on the creation before it dries. The base
of this work is commonly finished by lacquering and given a high gloss
before further patterns are drawn. In 2009, Namiki presents four works of
art from the Yukari collection, transforming traditional scenes from nature
into striking fantasies.
Sakura & Swallow - The
nation’s most beloved flower, the Sakura or Cherry Blossom, has always been
the pride and joy of Japanese all over the world. The Sakura blooms only
briefly, thus representing the transience and fragility of life. As the
Sakuras bloom, migrant
swallows make Japan their home in Spring. The arrival of these exquisite
birds marks good luck and fertility. The Yukari Sakura & Swallow beautifully
exemplifies the coming of Spring and the hopes of a new beginning filled
with good fortune. The Yukari Sakura & Swallow enthralls
with its unparalleled attention to detail and masterful display of Taka
Maki-e and Togidashi Maki-e skill.
