NAMIKI YUKARI COLLECTION
From a culture that has revered the art of writing for more than a
thousand years, comes instruments that celebrate both writing and art.
The
Yukari Collection features writing instruments which are individually
hand-crafted by the most revered of Japanese master artisans. Using the
famed Maki-e technique which encompasses the creation of patterns and
decorations with the use of sap from the Japanese lacquer tree (Urushi),
gold and silver dust are sprinkled on the creation before it dries. The
base of this work is commonly finished by lacquering and given a high
gloss before further patterns are drawn. In 2009, Namiki presents four
works of art from the Yukari collection, transforming
traditional scenes from nature into striking fantasies.
Namiki Bamboo -An integral part of Japanese culture, the Bamboo has
always possessed a certain poetic allure which has captivated
generations of Japanese from as far back as the Heian period (794-1192),
which was renowned as one of the most culturally-enlightened periods of
Japan. The Bamboo, which is characterised by its quiet beauty and
unshakeable inner strength, has adorned many traditional Japanese
paintings. In 2009, the Bamboo makes its long-awaited appearance on the
Yukari, and its simplistic beauty is best captured with the delicate
Togidashi Maki-e technique.
