Sailor 1911 Full-Size Rei Urushi-nuri Ishikawa Kaga-nuri Fountain Pen

The Sailor 1911 Full-Size Rei Urushi-nuri Ishikawa Kaga-nuri is hand-finished by artist Isana Kobayashi, based in the city of Kaga in Ishikawa prefecture on the west coast of Japan.

The Kaga gradation technique on this pens is a speciality of the artist Isana Kobayashi, who is a skilled craftsman in the traditional craft center of Ishikawa.
Ishikawa Kaga-nuri lacquer is an ingenious idea of ​​Negoro-nuri, which is derived from Negoroji Temple in Wakayama Prefecture. Negoro-nuri is made by applying black lacquer to the undercoat and vermilion to the topcoat. Even if the amount of vermilion is reduced, the underlying black lacquer looks like a scratch, and it is a gem with a beautiful expression of wear. Polished domestic lacquer finish makes you feel a richer texture. Each pen is individually hand-finished by the artist, and no two pens will ever be exactly alike.

Part of Sailor's Bespoke Collection, this is the second series of 1911 Full-Size Rei Urushi fountain pens, featuring natural urushi lacquer over an ebony wood cap and barrel. Each of the three pens in the series is finished by a different artist, and each artist is based in a different part of Japan and utilizes a technique for which that region is known.

Each pen ships in a specially decorated paulownia wood presentation box which includes a special pen pouch, cleaning cloth, and starter pack of ink cartridges along with the converter and an instruction booklet.
