Geneva, March 2010 – The Caran d’Ache 1010 collection represents a unique encounter between Fine Watchmaking and Fine Writing. The master craftsmen of the Geneva Maison de Haute Ecriture have again extended their expertise to create a limited edition in the 1010 Collection devoted to all those who love sports or enjoy a challenge: the 1010 Chrono Sport. This Fine Writing instrument combines a pure sporting aesthetic with the excellent manufacturing standards of the Swiss Made label.

Chronographs, the first recorders of time, have had a great influence on the development of Fine Watchmaking and on the history of sport. Originally fitted with a movable dial and an ink writing system, they have preserved sporting achievements and encouraged other competitors to surpass them. Today, the 1010 Chrono Sport pays tribute to the chronograph and to all outstanding athletes with this Limited Edition dedicated to all those in search of perfection.

With an astonishing interplay of depth and volume, the two cages that constitute the body of the 1010 Chrono Sport evoke the wheels and gear trains in the movement of a watch. On the skeleton fuselage, three delicate engravings suggest the counters and the decoration of the bridges, while the black inner chassis depicts the gear train of a high-performance chronograph, with one wheel meticulously hand-painted in red.
The ring, like the bezel of a watch, carries luminescent hour markers visible in the darkest of nights. The cap, coated with velevety black lacquer, is fluted like a watch crown, giving the impression of a streamlined racing body. The clip, in the form of a watch hand, is topped by a sparkling ruby.

The fountain pen, set with a ruby, has a piston pump finished in black, soft-touch mat lacquer. The nib, in 18-carat, rhodium-coated gold, is polished by hand and offers a supple and unmatched level of writing precision that testifies to the expertise of Caran d’Ache craftsmen.

This rare, sumptuous writing instrument is beautifully presented in a brilliant black lacquer box.
The box also contains a superb ink bottle in raw glass, decorated with watchmaking gear wheels and filled with the vibrant Carbon Black ink. Its black, soft-touch stopper is engraved with the Caran d’Ache monogram.

Technical Description
The 1010 Chrono Sport is available in two versions: fountain pen and roller pen, both in a Limited Edition of 500 pieces. Each pen is individually numbered from 1-500 and, of course, is accompanied by its certification as authentic jewellery and a Limited Edition.
 
The 1010 Chrono Sport will be introduced at the World Watch and Jewellery Show (Baselworld 2010) and will be available from July 2010, in shops specialising in exclusive writing instruments.


MATERIAL    Silver-plated. rhodium-coated with black, soft-touch, mat lacquer

NIB      18-carat, rhodium-plated gold, engraved with a delicate gear wheel
 design. Available in fine or medium size.

RING    Represents a watch bezel, with a luminescent lacquer.

CAP    Black soft-touch lacquer. Inspired by wristwatch crowns.

CLIP    Suggests a watch hand, set with a ruby. (0.04 carats)

BODY    Interior cage in soft, black, shiny lacquer with a red, hand-painted gear wheel enhancing the black mat lacquered body. Represents the complex mechanism of a watch movement.
Exterior cage is silver-plated, and rhodium-coated, inspired by the
bridges that support a watch gear train. Enhanced by CdA and Swiss
Made monograms. Three watch counters are represented.
