      PILOT
      80TH ANNIVERSARY 1998 LE  MIYABI
    BUGAKU DANCING MUSIC FOUNTAIN PEN

    Pilot, the parent of
Namiki and Dunhill Namiki celebrated its 80th Anniversary in 1998. In order
to commemorate the special occasion, Pilot has produced the "ShiSen"
    and the "Miyabi" set.
    The technical
perfection found on these pens parallel to the work of the leading master
lacquer pen artists from the 1920s. The design for the series comes from an
idea found in the Heian period (794-1185). The Miyabi was produce in 55 sets
and the Shisen (Urushi) was produced in 2000 pieces (combination of Black
and Red Urushi) only. Both the Miyabi sets and the Urushi were sold even
before they were made, once again reflecting how collectible these pens are.

    Overview of the Bugaku

    Miyabi,
    translated into English means genteelness.
There are three motifs in this series which flourished during the ancient
Japanese dynasty of the Hei-an period between the 8th and 12th centuries.
The first is called Kai-Awase, which is a shell game; the second is called
Bugaku, which is Dancing Music; and the third is called Soushi-E, which is
    picture book.
    But
    this page featured
the Limited Edition Miyabi Bugaku a.k.a Dancing Music.
These pens are fashioned from an ebonite material. Each pen is housed in its
own specially designed Urushi lacquered two piece black box. Inside you will
find a leather drawstring pouch to hold the pen along with writing paper,
envelopes and a special bottle of Pilot ink.
    This
is a highly collectible pen and hard to come by. We can only get this from
collectors nowadays provided he/she is willing to sell it :-) One of the
rare pens and highly sort after pens.
