What
      is "MAKIE"?

      URUSHI
lacquer is the sap extracted from the URUSHI tree, a deciduous tree of the
sumac family. This special tree grows only in South East Asia, China,

      Korea

       and

      Japan

. URUSHI lacquer is one of the most
durable natural adhesives. The strong adhesive properties of wet lacquer
facilitate the decoration of the pen's surface. "MAKIE" is a
special technique of sprinkling powder on URUSHI lacquer. It was developed
      in

      Japan

       during the

      NARA

period (7th century) and was handed down
      through generations.

      The

      Kirin
is one of the 4 Gods from ancient
Chinese mythology. It is a kindhearted beast, known as the
"benevolence beast" (a beast with sympathy) and is a symbol of
      consideration in

      China

      . The
      Kirin
was created from the bodies of four
animals. It has the foot of a horse, the body of a deer, the head of a
wolf and the tail of a cow. With this special limited edition writing
