		MAKI-E KARAJISHI A.K.A.CHINESE LION

		Tigers used to be
regarded as the king of beasts in ancient China, but when the rumours
about lions were passed on to Chinese people through the Silk Road,
lions took the place of tigers. Lions were also valued as the symbol of
kingship in China as in Egypt and India where lion statues were placed
in the palaces of their dynasties to represent the kind’s power and to
		protect him.

		“ Karajishi ” is an
imaginary lion introduced from the Tang Dynasty (7 th to 10 th century)
to Japan. In both the East and West, lions have been considered to be a
precious luck-bringing animal that averts evil, beckons happiness and
promotes joy. The two lions and size coloured balls in Karajish i maki-e
of the pen are believed to realize your dreams and bring joy and more
		fortune to you.

		“ Karajishi ” is a
masterpiece created under the theme of East culture with eternal
history. The Pelikan logo on the crown, limited edition number and the
artist’s signature are drawn in by hand using Maki-e techniques. “
Karajishi ” is limited to an edition of 88 pieces worldwide only. Each
fountain pen is encased in a beautiful Japanese traditional paulownia
		wood pen box.

		This is
the 6th yearly edition of the Pelikan maki-e fountain pen. The pen was
made in Germany but the artwork was done in Japan. The very first maki-e,
The 4 Seasons was launched in 2001. It was so successful and completely
sold out even before launching. The 4 Seasons set has become so highly
collectible today. It has become one of the most sought after models in
the pens' market. This therefore set the precedence of the yearly
Pelikan maki-e affair. Subsequently, the Genji in 2002, Health & Wealth
in 2003, Dragon & Phoenix in 2004, Kyokko & Gekko in 2005, Heavenly
Maiden of Dunhuang in 2006 and now the Chinese Lion were launched.

		This is
one of the best maki-e pens around. Beautiful theme with superb artwork
of Togidashi Taka-maki-e finished with a great Raden inlay. This makes
the Pelikan Chinese Lion one of the best artwork we have seen so far.
Only 88 pieces worldwide. Each piece is individually numbered.
