Visconti’s Forbidden City instrument represents this place of secrecy with a cage of pearl red resin, a symbol for the sense of isolation and interdiction which has been connected to the city until the present. Through the cage you see the gods : the Dragon, the Phoenix, the Lion, and others. The Dragon represents the Emperor and is the focus of the pen in its blind cap shelter. Cage and miniatures cover a finely engraved base with oriental overlay. This power-filler fountain also relegates a fine 18k gold nib for your enjoyment. Each pen is enclosed within a deeply recessed and elaborate wooden box.
