You are looking at a very unique pen completely hand done by Maki-e master, Mr. Masanori Omote.  Sakura-Kawa literally means "Cherry Tree Bark".  Here the Maki-e artist manipulate the urushi lacquer to make the pen look and feel like a tree bark.  The pen is not made of wood, but urushi lacquer to make it look like one.  One can imagine the number of layers needed to accomplish the tree bark effect by using Urushi. Each Urushi layer is merely 0.03 mm thick. Thus numerous layers were required to give the tree bark effect.

The cap band is decorated with exquiste maki-e work.  It is truly unique, exotic, and a pleasure to hold in your hand and to write with.  The pen is completely new with box and paper.  The pen is signed by the master Maki-e artist himself and bears his seal.
